Why Hardware Matters in a Cloud World
While your VoIP service operates in the cloud, the tangible user experience happens right at the desk, making the choice of equipment critical for business success. Investing in enterprise-grade VoIP hardware ensures that your team benefits from HD voice quality and specialized processing that significantly reduces latency compared to consumer-grade devices. Beyond technical performance, premium hardware enhances your professional image by delivering crystal-clear audio during client interactions and unlocks advanced productivity features—such as one-touch transfers, Busy Lamp Fields (BLF), and touchscreen interfaces—that are essential for a modern, efficient workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions for VOIP Hardware
Can I use my old analog phones with Univision Computers VoIP?
In some instances, yes, by using an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter). However, analog phones cannot utilize High Definition (HD) audio or advanced visual features like digital directories and presence monitoring. To get the full value of your cloud phone system, we strongly recommend upgrading to IP-enabled devices.
What if I don't have Ethernet network cables at every desk?
You don't necessarily need to rewire your office. We offer Wi-Fi enabled IP phones that connect wirelessly to your internet, requiring only a standard power outlet. Alternatively, many of our desk phones feature "Gigabit Pass-Through," allowing you to plug your computer into the back of the phone so both devices share a single wall jack.
Do these phones require a separate power cable?
Most of our enterprise IP phones are PoE (Power over Ethernet) compatible. This means if you have a PoE network switch, the ethernet cable provides both data and electricity, reducing cable clutter. If you do not have a PoE switch, simply let us know, and we will provide standard AC power adapters ( "wall warts") for your devices.
Can I buy my own phones from Amazon or another retailer?
While Univision Computers supports open SIP standards, we highly recommend purchasing hardware directly through us. Phones bought from third parties often come locked to other carriers or lack the necessary security certificates. When you buy from us, devices arrive auto-provisioned—meaning they are pre-programmed with your user data and security settings, ready to work the second you plug them in.
What happens if a device breaks or stops working?
We stand behind the hardware we sell. Univision Computers assists with all manufacturer warranty claims. If a device is found to be defective within the warranty period, we help facilitate the RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) process to get a replacement unit to your team as quickly as possible.
Do your headsets work with both the desk phone and my computer?
Yes, we offer Unified Communications (UC) headsets. These versatile devices often feature dual connectivity (Base station for the desk phone + USB dongle or Bluetooth for the computer). This allows you to switch seamlessly between a call on your desk phone and a Zoom or Teams meeting on your PC using the same headset.
How much internet bandwidth do these phones require?
Modern VoIP hardware is highly efficient. A standard high-quality voice call uses approximately 100 kbps (upload and download). Most modern business internet connections can easily handle dozens of concurrent calls without any degradation in quality.
Do I need a computer turned on to use the VoIP phone?
No. Unlike "softphones" that run as an app on your PC, our hardware IP phones are standalone devices. They connect directly to the internet and function independently, ensuring you can always make and receive calls even if your computer is turned off or updating.
